close up of the wood frog eggs. over the next two weeks, those black dots at the center of each egg will start to look more and more like little tadpoles. the egg mass might start to turn green as algae grows on it. this algae provides oxygen for the developing larva and will also serve as a food source for the young tadpoles after they hatch.
