you might think that this is another story like the one where i encountered a hideously-ugly fox in the woods, but it turns out, i am not making this one up- this is a real barred owl. still living and breathing and everything, but also one that is part of mass audubon's "audubon ark" traveling animal program. both the owl and i were presenters at the grand opening of LL bean's newest store in mansfield, ma.
