based on recommendations from one of matt's co-workers, we headed south down the coast to the town and nature preserve of humacao. the weather continued to be almost perfect- warm but cloudy so that it didn't get hot and hotter. the nature preserve seemed crowded at first, but as we got further from the parking lot (and further from the small lakes with the great fishing), we saw fewer and fewer people. and by the time we got out to the ocean, we were the only ones there. here are the photos- again, some photos from matt used with his permission.
at our first stop on the beach, we were greeted by this whimsical shopping cart. it was some of the prettiest trash i had ever seen.
in an effort to impress my co-workers at mass audubon, i took a few bird pictures. i'm guessing this one is some sort of tern.
this beach had a lot of debris- garbage from people and garbage from nature. you're right- most of the natural stuff is prettier than the shopping cart.
there were iguanas in the water. i'm not even kidding. despite this, matt and i still went swimming.
matt wore his long pants at first, in an attempt to try to rinse off the el yunque mud from the day before.
no one on the beach but us and the iguanas.
the beach was littered with coconuts in various stages of becoming palm trees.
